Seoul Design International Forum 2024

2024.11.27 | Dongdaemun Design Plaza

Seoul Design International Forum 2024 was held on November 27 at the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) in Seoul, South Korea. Now in its fifth year, the forum serves as a platform to share insights on the systematic promotion of the "Design Seoul 2.0 Project" announced last year and to discuss the development of Seoul as a vibrant and attractive design city.

This year's forum was centered around the theme "The Future of Sustainable Cities and Design," featuring discussions with prominent experts from various fields, both domestic and international. The focus was on enhancing global design capabilities and exploring methods to improve the quality of urban life through design.

In the first session, presentations were made on the topic of "Strengthening Urban-Driven Global Design Capabilities," including Craig Kainer's "DDP, Trends, and the Future," Lee Sang-In, a design leader's "Cities, Design, and Artificial Intelligence," and Chris Van Duyne's "Hidden Landmarks." Following these presentations, Professor Lee Hyun-Kyung, Director of the DFK Center, moderated a panel discussion that explored in depth the leadership in global design culture, strengthening the competitiveness of the design industry, and expanding the sharing of design values.

In the second session, Professor Jeffrey Goh, a faculty member at the Singapore University of Technology and Director of the Singapore Design Factory, participated in the forum at the invitation of Professor Lee Hyun-Kyung. He gave a presentation on the need for a paradigm shift in design education and practice to address sustainability challenges and discussed the roles of designers in this transition.
